Our Work / Wirewright
An electrician calculator, built for the job site
Wirewright: voltage drop, wire size, conduit fill and Ohm’s law calculators for electricians in the US and Canada, on iPhone, Android and the web.

Context
Electricians, apprentices and contractors run the same calculations on every job: voltage drop on a long run, the right conductor size for a load, how many wires fit in a conduit. Most calculator apps are cluttered with ads, need an account, or do not say which code table they use.
Challenge
Build a calculator that is fast enough to use with gloves on, trustworthy enough to show an inspector, works with no signal, and covers both the US National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) in imperial or metric units.
Approach
Startup Slang designed and built Wirewright as its own product, end to end: brand and icon, the calculation engine, the mobile app and the website. The engineering math lives in a separate, tested TypeScript library, so every result follows the referenced code tables. The app is built with Expo and React Native for iPhone and Android, and wirewrightapp.com offers free web versions of the calculators that cite the code they use.
